The character originates from the 1985 short story “The Forbidden” of the collection Books of Blood by Clive Barker, about the legend of the “Candyman“, the ghost of an artist and son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century. The original Candyman 1992 movie, didn’t initially perform at the box office but has gradually become a cult classic. The Candyman legend of well-known painter, Daniel Robitaille, an African-American man born in the late 1800’s as the son of a slave. He fell in love with a white woman, her father sent a lynch mob after him. The mob cut off his right hand and smeared him with honeycomb stolen from an apiary, attracting bees that stung him to death. Brutal, but that explains the hook, bees and anger.
